I know it hasn’t been long since i lost Scratch but i’ve been lonely without her and decided to get a new one today, well yesterday seeing as it’s 2am now. My sister and i went to the pet shop, my sister having been the day before and had chosen her favourite, when we got there they were all happily sleeping in a big pile at the back of the cage, with one occasionally waking up to walk over its sisters to sleep at the back of the pile. Soon enough though they started to wake up, hamster yawns are fantasticly cute by the way. There were two we liked the look of, the one my sister had picked out yesterday, which had white and cream fur and an all black one. We watched them for a while to see how they acted, if they looked friendly and so on, finally we decided on the black one, she seemed very sweet. The shop assistant fished her out of the tank and put her in a carrying box, which for some reason advertised bird food, she advised us on which wheel was best to buy, the one i had Scratch never liked, it didn’t look too comfortable.

We got her home, i’d already made up the cage so she was ready to go, i opened the box and put it in the cage, she wouldn’t leave it on her own so i tipped it up and she slid out. I didn’t pick her up as she had already been through a lot, she was obviously scared and the first thing she did was run and hide under the hay in a corner. She calmed a little after a while and i was able to stroke her a little but still didn’t pick her up. I left her to it and she explored her new home, she seems to like hiding behind her wheel, i was please to see her discover her food bowl and water bottle, i always worry a new hamster wont find them. She’s had a lot of fun running on the wheel, everytime i see her she runs and runs then a paw slips off the side so she stumbles, so she has to start over and then she just does the same over and over, it’s so funny and cute.

Of course being me, i had to name her after a pork product, so this little girl is Honey Roast Ham(ster).

Well i went to see my best friend for a few days, he lives in London which on the quickest trains (that run my way) is about 3 hours. I had a great time as i always do with him, even though i constantly feel like im a total burden to him and get on his nerves all the time. I’ve known him a little over 2 years and am just about starting to feel less of those worries around him, i’m comfortable with him, which is rare for me with anyone let alone a man.

We mostly spent our time on his computer Stumbling about the web or asleep, i had the second kebab of my life, this time with the chili sauce, was very nice, if also very fattening. There really isn’t much to say, neither of us are the kind of people who go out to clubs, we’re happy just sitting about, and all the better if there’s someone to sit about with.

But of cousre i had to leave sooner or later, would have prefered later but then i really would be a burden. I came home today, arrived a few hours ago and the first thing i did was spend half an hour on the phone to the very man i had left a few hours before. Right now my back and feet are hurting a lot and i’m very tired, so i better be off to bed.

This morning when i got up to give Scratch her antibiotic she wasn’t moving, i stroked her back to see if she would wake up, she didn’t move and was icy cold to the touch. I went to tell my sister Scratch was dead, we told our parents and found a box for her. I lifted her from her house, she seemed so much heavier than normal, i could see under her tail was bloody. I put her down and despite it being very slow, she startled both me and my sister but lifting her head and opening her eyes. We went straight to the vets, i knew there was little hope, i knew what he would say and i agreed to it. I didn’t want her to suffer any more and i definatly didn’t want to make the mistake i had when i got her up and burry her alive. I signed the form and he euthanised her while i waited outside. Once we got her home we went down to the bottom of the garden and dug a hole infront of the bamboo bush, next to where her big brothers, Dollar the rabbit and Streaky Bacon the hamster, are burried. I placed the box in the grave and covered her with some stones, my sister refilled the hole and put another stone on top.

I think i must have hit the gutter 14 times, maybe more, i managed a score of 28 in our first game. I think i would have done better in the second game if we’d had the time to finish it but my friends had to get to the cinema to see Hot Fuzz, which i’ve been dying to see but i had to be home for 10pm so i could give a certain hamster her medication. The worst part of the game was that i got a strike, i know most people love getting strikes, i do too, but this one i got while playing someone elses go as she wasnt ready. This person went on to win the game, though i must point out, she still only got a 47.

After getting home i put some luke-warm water in a bowl and got some cotton wool so i could clean Scratches rear (she can’t do it herself due to the scar on her belly) and got the antibiotic ready in the syringe. I cleaned her as best i could and after my fifth or sixth attempt i got the syringe in her mouth and pushed the end of it. She didn’t seem to mind too much, i think she’s just a natural wriggler which is what makes things hard. Things are really looking up for her, i hope they keep going this well.

Today i had to take my hamster to the vet. I talked to the vet and she said Scratch had an infected womb and she would need surgery, there was a 50/50 chance she would make it through and then there was a risk of dying from complcations after the surgery or even from the infection if we hadnt caught it soon enough. I left her with the vet and went home to wait for the call.

I didn’t sleep at all last night and i finally crashed after i got back from the vets, i slept through the call but my dad took it and told me what he’d been told. When they’d opend Scratch up they didn’t find any pus in her womb so the infection was in a much earlier stage than had been thought and they decided that she should get better with fluids and antibiotics so the surgery wasnt needed, they said i could call anytime to check on her. After my dad told me this, i pretty much just fell right back to sleep.

When i woke up again i called to see how she was doing, they told me she was recovering well, she’d been very lively when she was awake and although she hadnt eaten by herself she was taking food well from the nurse. I’m meant to call tomorrow after 9.30am to see if i can pick her up.

I love my hamster to bits, i really hope i can take her home soon, my room seems so quiet without her running about her cage.

I decided to have some oranges for a snack, it’s late, or early depending on how you look at it, but i was a bit hungry so went downstairs to get something, decided i’d be healthy so raided the fruit bowl. Got back upstairs and started peeling, the skin was very tight to the orange and difficult to get off, i think this is a good thing as when they do this they taste better than when they don’t, maybe it has something to do with ripeness. I don’t mind that, it’s ok if it takes a little longer to get to the fruit if the result tastes better, but what i don’t like is the yellow/orange mark on my index finger from the liquid bit of the skin, it smells like orange and makes my skin feel funny, i would wash it off right away but as i have another orange to peel id just be having to wash again after that. So i’m just sat here with a finger that looks like i’ve smoked all my life, waiting until i feel like peeling my next orange so my hand doesn’t have to feel scaley any more.

Well, i guess i need to actually post. Maybe i should explain myself, i havn’t got a clue what i’m doing, i don’t know what i’m going to talk about but i’m giving it a go. Perhaps i’ll just talk about whatever comes to mind, and not actually have a defind subject, lets just see what happens.

I should at least warn people what to expect from me, i’ve never been great at English, so you wont be seeing great sentance structure, or even good grammer from me any time soon. I’m not yet sure how often i’ll be able to post, not due to lack of time, it’s more of a lack of ideas, not much happens to me, i really am very dull.

Now, i guess this brings to an end my few hours of trying to work out WordPress and finally working out my blog. So this is it.
