The water feature in the center square of Rekjavik.
This was on the base of a larger sculpture, I’m not sure what it was exactly but seemed like a bit of Icelandic history, maybe about the legends of the first settlers.
On the second day there we went on the Golden Circle route, this started by going to Þingvellir (pronounced Thingvellir) national park, stopping at the site of the founding of the worlds first parliment. It was about 11am and the sun was rising so slowly, it was beautiful.
This odd looking wall of rock is actually the north American tectonic plate, it moves away from the European at about 2cm a year, creating new land for Iceland.
We moved on from Þingvellir to Geysir. We arrived close to 4pm and the sun was now starting to set. It was hard to get a picture of the actual blasts of the geysirs because if you aren’t ready before it goes you’ll miss it.
Finally we went to Gullfoss, or Golden Falls, a massive waterfall, it did have a slight yellow tint to it, but that doesn’t show here because it was getting so dark at the time.
On out last day we went to the Pearl, which is meant to be a great spot in Rekjavik to view the city. Unfortunately the weather prevented that, and all I could get was a wind blurred picture of the “Dance” sculpture outside it.
